"Aankhen" is considered to be an average film of Hindi cinema. Critics gave it average reviews, but the audience appreciated it. Vikram (Vivek Oberoi) is an orphan who lives with his uncle (Kanwaljit Singh) and aunt (Sujata Mehta). He does not have a happy life as his uncle often beats him. He gets along with a little girl, who is also an orphan, called Anita (Aparnaa Bajpai).Vikram's uncle wants to marry him off to a girl called Ratna Poli (Rachana Banerjee), so they can live happily together in Bombay. Vikram refuses to marry her and instead takes a job as a teashop waiter. Here he meets Vinod Malerkar (Ravi Kissen), who works as an assistant director for the film "Main Azaad Hoon" (I am free). The film's director (Dev Anand) is impressed with Vikram and gives him a small role in the film. Vikram meets Angelika (Kirron Kher), who is a leading lady in the movie, and falls in love with her. So he runs away from Bombay to marry her. He says goodbye to Vinod and his wife (Lekh Tandon). As soon as Vikram returns, Vinod and his wife tell him that Vikram has gone to Bombay and settled down with Angelika. They both decide to find him, but find that it will be difficult for them to do so as Angelika knows that Vikram is married.
